During Dementia Action Week, Derbyshire Dementia Information and Advice Service colleagues will be available at various events across Derbyshire for people with dementia, carers, and members of the public to talk to members of the team and learn more about what the service offers, and how to contact them:
Monday 19 May, 11:30am-2:30pm – Information Point inside the main entrance of Chesterfield Royal Hospital
Tuesday 20 May, 10:00am-1:00pm – Bolsover Library
Wednesday 21 May, 11:00am-2:30pm – ‘Memory Marketplace’ event, Chesterfield Football Stadium
Thursday 22 May, 11:00am-3:00pm – ‘Sports Day’, Decathlon, Giltbrook Retail Park, Nottingham
Thursday 22 May, 10:00am-1:00pm – Shirebrook Library
Derbyshire Dementia Information and Advice Service Joins Forces with Decathlon for a Day of Fun, Fitness, and Connection
We are excited to announce that the Derbyshire Dementia Information and Advice Service is teaming up with Decathlon to host a special event designed to support people living with dementia, their carers, and the wider public. This event will provide a unique opportunity to try out a variety of physical activities while also accessing vital dementia-related information, support, and advice.
Why this event matters:
Keeping physically active is not only good for physical health, but also plays an important role in supporting brain function, reducing stress, and enhancing social wellbeing—particularly for those living with dementia. This event aims to break down barriers to exercise by offering inclusive and adaptable activities in a friendly and welcoming environment.
Why Decathlon?
While the Decathlon store carries a Nottinghamshire postcode, it is ideally situated for some of our Derbyshire communities, and highly accessible to many of our service users. This store offers expansive indoor and outdoor spaces, giving us the perfect platform to host inclusive, weather-proof activities that encourage movement, fun, and engagement.
Meet the Team
The event will also offer attendees the opportunity to connect with Dementia Advisors from across Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, and Derby, along with Rhys, our Derbyshire Group Facilitator. The team will be on hand throughout the event, not only joining in the activities but also available to chat, answer questions, and signpost to further services and support.
Whether you’re living with dementia, caring for someone who is, or simply interested in learning more about the condition and how to support people affected, this event promises to be an enjoyable and informative day for everyone.
